Lab Created (Synthetic) Rutile - Daffodil

79.00

Rutile is a mineral composed primarily of titanium dioxide.

Synthetic rutile was first produced in 1948, by a special variation of the Verneuil method, using extra oxygen. The high refractive index and strong refraction gives it a diamond-like appearance.

NOTE: Due to the softness, this gem should not be set in rings (unless it is a protective-type setting) since it would be easily scratched or damaged.  The material is resistant to most acids or alkalis but excessive heat could cause change in color.
